TIPTON

PT 225

The main features located on the mainline at Tipton are the Old Rt 220 overpass, the ex-PRR Signal Bridge at PT 225 and the Tipton DED at PT 225.9. The DED is a useful detector to listen for trains between Altoona and Tyrone.

PT 224.1 - Old Rt 220 Overpass

The PRR built a beautiful iron girder bridge over their mainline to carry Rt 220 from Tyrone southwest towards Altoona. Looking east, one can barely see the EB GRAY signals around the bend. To the west, the railroad curves south towards McFarland Curve.

2) Eastbound photo to come.

PT 225.1 - PT 225 PRR Signal Bridge

The PT 225 signal bridge is very close to Old US RT 220. Turning onto a small dirt road named Pacanowski Ln (it's on google maps) will bring you right up to McFarland Curve and a private farm crossing. Just west of the crossing one will not help but see and photograph the ex-PRR PT 225 signal bridge.

3) Westbound 25Z cuts through the fog at McFarland Curve and passes over the farm crossing.

3) Eastbound C42 heads to Lewistown with a GP22ECO in the lead.

PT 225.9 - Clearfield Ave Crossing and 225.9 DED

A mile long straight resides between McFarland and Fostoria Curves. The 225.9 DED lies just east of the Clearfield Ave crossing.
