Sightings Header

Saturday February 16, 2008
This morning started shortly after 7AM with a phone call stating that 16T, Y00, 18G, 212, 214, 20K, and 24V were all in Reading and that I should be trackside. I got my stuff together and made my way down to the tracks. Shortly after I arrived the parade began. The first train to grace my presence was 20K. Less than 15 minutes late 212 arrived. I tried to shoot a new angle (looking west from the Fahy Street bridge) but it didn't work out. 214 followed another 13 minutes later with 24V a half hour after that.

It was a little under an hour until 21M arrived. I was able to snag a shot of this sign-laden wooden post guarding the crossing at CP-88 with 21M streaking by in the background. Three trains (18G, 64J, and 052) were waiting for 21M to clear CP-Bethlehem before they could head east. Roadrailer 262 and local H76 would be added to the queue as well. Witness 18G crossing from the single track to number 1 and from number 1 to number 2 at CP-Bethlehem.

The empty trash train, 64J, followed 18G off the single track from Allentown. Getting the Coke truck on the bridge added some much needed color to this photo. After he cleared the dispatcher gave 052 a Form-D to run number 1 track east from CP-Bethlehem. The Air Products move had this young railfan out of the car framing his shot of the EMDs dragging the heat exchanger.

The dispatcher ran 262 through Allentown because 052 was occupying the single track. Once he cleared CP-Bethlehem, 262 came across the Lehigh River and into the River Yard to interchange the train with LVRB (formerly PBNE). After he cleared CP-88 H76 headed east out of Allentown. About 40 minutes later 36G came out of the yard for Oak Island. We hung around for another hour and a half or so at CP-88 before heading over to CP-Ham to catch H74 with CEFX 3161.

Due to other commitments, H74 would be the last photo of the day for me. Unfortunately, Y00, 36Q, 213, and 68Q were all in the area. To see the entire rundown of trains, times, and engine numbers, check out the 2008 Train Log. Thanks for looking and enjoy the photos along with the rest of the site.
