This morning started off at East Feltonville awaiting the arrival of Q171. He rolled through, as he often does, right around 7:30AM. Today's edition hosted CSXT SD40-2 8037 third out that was spewing a good amount of exhaust as it hustled this hot intermodal west. Once he cleared we headed for Naamans Creek Road. Shortly after we arrived we heard the CSX BE Dispatcher talking to Q370-12. He had finished his work at Wilsmere and was ready to come east. It was not long before he came through with CSXT SD70MAC 4500 - "The Spirit of Cumberland" trailing. |

We had heard another eastbound coming off in the distance so we headed east to Holmes. We soon found out it was an early Q438-12 with a pair CSX AC4400CWs in charge. With nothing else in the immediate picture on CSX we headed for the Chester Secondary. We had previously heard CSX S. Philadelphia - Stoney Creek local turn talking to the creek as well as Stoney Creek-based local CR WPSC-01. We found the 01 working Kimberly-Clark along the Chester waterfront. Not being able to shoot him there we headed north towards the Philadelphia Electric Company's power plant in Tinicum. No sooner had we arrived than SC-01 was on his way towards us with C788 to follow north.. |

The SC-01 went in on Wanamaker three in order to allow the C788 to pass on two. We see a fairly large 788, led by CSXT SD40-2 8878 passing the SC-01 at the north end of Wanamaker Yard. We immediately jumped in the car and headed for the Eastwick SEPTA station on the Airport Line to catch C788 again under wire. Thanks to a short pause at CP-90th Street North for a pair of SEPTA trains to clear we were able to have ample time to set up for our shot. |

At this point we had just about reached the mid day lull. We elected to grab a bite to eat and head back to the CSX side of things. After lunch we were alerted to Q172 coming east. With hardly any well-lit locations for afternoon eastbounds we settled upon East Feltonville. Once 172 had cleared Darby the dispatcher lit Q405 up to come west. This train would end our day as, apart from D729 switching Twin Oaks and the Q172 that had just passed, was possibly the only train on the Philly Sub. |
